This intricate jewelry box was created with an incredible 219 separate pieces of wood, utilizing 12 different species from all around the world. Tinkerbell was brought to life using a wonderful process known as marquetry. Marquetry is the art of creating pictures utilizing many different species of wood (therefore different colors, textures and grain patterns), which are then carefully cut and precisely fitted together. Hot sand is used to burn or scorch the wood to create shaded areas of the picture. “Tinkerbell”, herself, boasts an incredible 75 different pieces of wood!
